To extend the life of the fountain pumps, its proper care and cleanliness is very essential. Most of the pumps are available with a warranty of only one year but a well maintained pump will last for 2 to 3 years or even more. The following tips and tricks will be very beneficial for maintaining the pump:
- The pump needs to be cleaned after one or two months.
- Take out the pump from the fountain before cleaning. Follow the instructions provided on its cover while removing the fountain. Also disconnect it from the source of power.
- If there are some algae or pet hair which may have wrapped on the fountain pumps, pull it and then clean the pump with a cloth.
- Take out the cover of the pump. It is very easy to remove its cover and no tools and screwdrivers are required.
- One should clean the interior of the pump with detergent and then wash it with warm water. If there are some hard stains, one can use tooth brush for removing those stains.
- Now, take out the impeller and wash it properly. Sometimes, a mineral build up starts on the impeller; soaking it in the vinegar solution or any lime scale removal solution for half an hour will help in cleaning that mineral.
- After washing all the parts properly in clear water, allow them to dry.
- Reassemble all the parts of the fountain pump including impeller and cover and then install it in the fountain.
- Now, the power supply can be switched on. The pump should now work up to its full capacity.
